A resource that will help teachers save money on supplies for the upcoming school year is set to open Monday.
According to Adopt a Classroom, teachers spent more than ever out of their own pockets last year on school supplies. The nonprofit, I Heart Bryan, is hoping to relieve some of these costs with its Teacher Closet at Morning Star Storage.
The organization’s founder Fabi Payton said that the closet will have everything from supplies to games and even gently-used furniture. She said the goal is for it to be a blessing.
“I hope this lets them feel supported and lets them know that there are community members that want the culture to change, the culture that surrounds academics and how teachers are treated and how teachers are affected, we want it to change,” Payton said.
New to town? Come meet & mingle Saturday night in Bryan

The non-profit organization I Heart Bryan is thrilled to host its first Belong in Bryan meet and mingle event on Saturday at 6 pm. at Kinder Hill Brew Lab.
“Our goal is to introduce our new residents to all Bryan has to offer including our existing residents. Bring your kids, your dog, or just yourself. Everyone is welcome,” said organizer Kristin Strother. “It’s a great way for new Bryanites to meet others in the area. Even if you’ve been here for a few years, but don’t know many people still, then come out. Pass along to your new friends of Bryan!

The nonprofit I Heart Bryan is working to ensure local students are on track to succeed in their post-high school education endeavors.
Andrea Alvarado is the team leader for the initiative. She says she knows firsthand the struggles college can bring.
”I understand some of the struggles and the anxiety that comes along with having to go to college and filling out different kinds of applications and having to do different kinds of writing and you know homework. You don’t really have anybody to ask for guidance and not because your parents or guardians don’t care but because they just don’t have that experience,” said Alvarado.
Outdoor and nature event planned for LGBTQ+ families

I Heart Bryan and Girl Scouts of Central Texas are teaming up to host the inaugural Come Out in Nature day adventure to promote equality, community, and all that mother nature has to offer in a safe space for LGBTQ+ families and allies.
Nonprofit hosts story time event at Brazos Valley African American Museum

The nonprofit “I Heart Bryan” teamed up with the Brazos Valley African American Museum Saturday to help promote literacy amongst youth in the community. KBTX anchor Rusty Surette was the special guest reader and read the book “The Day You Begin” by Jacqueline Woodson to the eager group of children.

I Heart Bryan hosted a ribbon-cutting for its new pop-up shop Thursday now at the Savage Diva boutique shop in downtown Bryan.
For sale are t-shirts with the I Heart Bryan logo, t-shirts with a new design, stickers, and koozies.

With their inventory now depleted, Sleep in Heavenly Peace is partnering with I Heart Bryan from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday to build more. Their goal is to construct at least 16 beds.
Local woman, Bryan Police team up to host “Walk A Mile In My Shoes” community event

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - “I kind of had a Baptist church alter call moment,” said Fabi Payton. The Bryan woman admits answering the call has taken her out of her comfort zone. But she says it’s worth it to help unite the community when there’s been so much unrest across the country.
Payton has teamed up with Bryan Police for an event called “Walk A Mile In My Shoes.” On September 19, Bryan police officers will be paired with community members while walking some laps around the police department.
